I did not imply that, because Wii U doesn't have a proper Zelda yet.

And I can only hope that Mario Kart 8 does use gravity as well as Mario Galaxy, because that would be amazing.

I'm not convinced the Wii U audience is unaffected by the 3DS, because for the moment it offers very similar material for half the price.

If that were the case then why are 3DS sales also struggling? 3DS is selling about 50% as well as the DS did. WiiU is worse at 20%, but still.

IMO WiiU sales are hurt by the GamePad which takes away from gaming as much as it gives, the lack of Wii Sports, and the same games Wii had, just HD. I mean look at it

NSMBU + SLU= NSMB Wii
Wii Party U + NintendoLand = Wii Party + Mario Party 8 & 9
Donkey Kong FP = DKCR
MH3U = MH3

Plus upcoming you have:

Mario Kart 8 = Mario Kart Wii
Smash Bros = SSBB
X = XenoBlade
Just Dance 2015 = Just Dance 1-4

etc. Bayonetta 2 and Pikmin 3 are nice and all, but they have a small audience, don't boost sales much.

3DS is suffering the same problem, more Pokemon, Mario, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, etc. Nintendo needs new IP's, or at least vastly different iterations (e.g. Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube).

3DS isn't struggling. It's lower sales compared to DS are due to Smartphone competition, but it is still selling well.

It's trending lower than the GBA too. Nintendo has not had handheld sales this soft since the 1990s before Pokemon was created.

That's a big part of the reason why the "doesn't matter if Wii U bombs, like the GameCube days, Nintendo will just make money off their handheld" doesn't work and they are in fact posting operating losses (3 years counting now).

GBA didn't have to fight Smartphone encroachment.

Compare 3DS to Vita...
