openplatform isn't always best for the consumer, freedom in some places is restricting in other.


I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong, but how could this really hurt us?

open platform reduces the incentive for companies to invest especially in the entertainment industry which gaming is a part of. 

Even worse yet, as gaming is a hobby rather than a neccesity, its unlikely that any company would replace what the console industry without the incentive of a closed platform. We would see significant downsizing across the board. And lower quality games are bad for the consumer.

In short terms, freedom for consumers limits what some companies can reasonably invest to push the industry further.

Movies used to be a closed platform. There would still be incentive to invest, considering they would still make money off of the games sold, now on both platforms. Over all, game sales would probably increase, but there might be a decrease in console sales I suppose. Considering people would now only buy one home console.
