Very risky move, but could pay out or it could totally ruin them.
Don't know if it's a good move to stay in between two generations. Didn't help WiiU and that is a core machine, because these "bullshit innovations" as you called them didn't work out as well as last gen.
At the same time, 2018 would be the prime time of PS4 and XOne sales. Not many reasons to buy Nintendo's next console for them except for Nintendo games. Multiplats would be a bonus (if profitable) but nothing more.
Also while UHD is nice and all, I don't think many games would use it since you could produce much better looking games while keeping 1080p.
