Different people play different games for different reasons. If you just look at Super Mario and Kirby, they are both platformers, but Kirby doesn't really have any difficult jumps (Kirby can fly at will, after all). So Kirby's ongoing popularity is definitely not rooted in difficulty. Or take your perception of Zelda which you think of as having challenging difficulty. Others would say that hasn't been the case in a long time which shows that difficulty is in the eye of the beholder and a very subjective thing. So what makes Nintendo games great, if opinions can divert so much from each other and reasons to play video games can be so different? It is the overall polish which usually allows the games to age like wine; and polish matters regardless of the reasons why someone plays a game. People play Nintendo games that were made before they were born and think they are great. Nintendo games are usually not a flavor of the moment thing, but eternal. And that's what makes them special, because there aren't many other developers out there who work on the same or a similar level. Visual fidelity does have an expiration date while game design and polish do not. |
Nice one. I couldn´t have said it better
