I guess any videogame with a gay main charachter will underperform.. Few would tolerate playing as a gay protagonist.

I think the developer should not reveal that the protagonist is gay before releasing the game. Tell a deep story with good character developement , let the players attach to the character and then .. BANG, at least the players would see the subject from a different angle, and who knows, they might "understand". I honestly think it is a good material for a good story.
