3DS is still well ahead of the PSP LTD. Taking an arbitrary 4-week snapshot won't prove much.

Are you talking Japan? Because worldwide actually I don't think it's that far ahead. I suspect 3DS will finish actually right around the PSP's LTD at 80 million or so. This isn't just a 4 week snipet, these sales are consistently way down gen over gen, we can compare Dec 2013 to Dec 2007 or Jan 2014 to Jan 2008 ... it's not any prettier.

It's about 10 million ahead globally. Obviously this February does not accurately represent the trend of this generation.

Handheld sales are certainly down. But the market for handhelds is still there. Nintendo and Sony just aren't making an attractive proposition to potential customers who are satisfied by their smartphones.

More likely unless Nintendo willing to sell their games for 99 cents and intergrate their hardware into a cell phone or tablet design, many potential customers are simply not interested. Nintendo is certainly trying incredibly hard, we've never seen a Nintendo handheld get this level of software support from Nintendo directly or have so many price drops/different models/bundles/etc.
