Japan will be a smartphone-tablet market in 2-3 years time unless something dramatic is done to stem the tide. Home consoles are dead, but even dedicated gaming portables are showing signs of a sizable decline.
Personally I think Nintendo and Sony should consider joining forces especially for a new portable rather than competing. There won't be much of an industry left for them to compete over in Japan if this keeps up.
