And with regards to the difference in power between the 3 current gen consoles it really isn't that big of a deal. The Wii U is quite capable of handling downscaled ports from the PS4 and One.

That may all be right but you are forgetting one thing: Developers are tired of cramming their games into small ram amounts. After eight years of counting bytes on last gen consoles, they now see roughly 6G of ram. Continuing to cram their new code into WiiU's 1G is just not worth the pain, particularly since the WiiiU is losing contact with the other consoles in total sales numbers. In simple words: it's not worth the pain for large software projects.
