If you're in to encoding video, music, synthetic processes and cad, then yeah it will matter, but just gaming? Not really.

 

Thats why it does not make sense to spend high prices for cpus to put in gaming pcs. I had a $100 AMD FX 4300 and overclocked it from 3.6 to 4.4 easy. Had no problems at all playing games like Guild Wars 2, Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3.
