Console power is an undeniable part of the equation. It affects the selling power of multiplatform releases on the system, it affects the kind of 3rd party support it recieves and as well the general excitement surrounding the system to begin with.
History has shown that succesful systems generally demonstrate strong graphical leaps over the previous generations of console (the wii U doesn't) this is undeniably a selling point for devs developers and gamers alike. The Wii is only home console that did not follow this pattern.
