I bet all the academy judges felt that white guilt kick in. I bet CNN would be having a field day, claiming the oscars is full of racists biggots. I can see it now.

I have yet to see either though, but based on my personal tastes, I can see 12 years a slave being higher above gravity. 12 years a slave represents a reality that was slavery times back in the day. It was a reality many people wish to sideline but it did occur and it is important to remind people of the atrocities committed so we do not commit the mistakes of our past. The african american community takes what happen for granted so badly now a days. I'm not saying use that as an excuse to lash out on others and demand hand outs but as an opportunity to succeed where there ancestors could not and I think this movie is very important for that reason.
