All consoles that sell in high quantities, sell off their own merit, not consumer loyality.

PS3 is not a failure, unlike Wii u and most consoles of the company since N64. A lot of people switched to 360 because launched earlier and it was cheaper. And you are wrong, most sales on Nintendo's systems are because of brand loyalty (Which is 20 million approximately). I would say Sony fanbase is between 15-20 millions and Microsoft has definitely the smallest one.
