I honestly don't think there will be another Nintendo console in a traditional sense after the Wii U.
The Wii just delayed the inevitable, but rising development costs every generation + dropping Nintendo console interest each generation (with the exception of the Wii motion craze) is simply not a sustainable formula. Nintendo is expending tremendous amounts of energy/manpower on a niche product and that's just not their style.
16 million, 17 million, 20 million is kinda immaterial to Nintendo, the point is they can't seem to break into the mainstream console user unless they have some kind of break out gimmick. And said gimmick has to be cheap and easily/immediately understood ... that's just not a repeatable formula.
