What you are asking is not what I said. Let me try to put it more simply so you can understand.
1. "Al Qaeda" was responsible for the attacks on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center and elsewhere.
2. Leadership of Al Qaeda was in Afghanistan, and the leadership in Afghanistan ("the Taliban") knew that they were there and had access to them.
3. The Taliban said that they would turn over the leadership of Al Qaeda if they were responsible for the attacks, but also said that they did not believe that that was the case.
4. NATO fucked them up.
Now admittedly, my little jaunt to the Wikipedia article makes the U.S. sound more dickish than I was aware was the case, but I hope your ignorance on Afghanistan's involvement has been corrected.
