| Carl2291 said: I honestly think the Wii U userbase is already burnt out on platformers. Look at what released before it - New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U and Super Mario 3D World. Not only are these games readily available on the platform, but NSMB and NSL are both being bundled with the console already. Add in that the Wii U userbase is only a shadow of what the Wii (and 3DS) userbase was when it got a DK game. All together, you get a game that was never really guaranteed to sell all that well. Something of note, for the people saying that a Metroid game would have done worse - Look at the Pikmin 3 numbers. Pikmin as a franchise has never really been big. Its far smaller than Donkey Kong, thats for sure. Despite this, Pikmin opened up to a combined ~225k worldwide. Guess what Donkey Kong opened to... A combined ~196k Thats right. Pikmin 3 actually had a larger Week 1 than Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on a worldwide basis. |
Exactly.
Pikmin Japanese FW was 100k iirc, and DK less than 40k.
People want new games, not the same ones they can play already on the Wii.
