The problem is that did next to nothing for hardware sales. Should have had Retro working on Metroid instead, at least that would have been different enough to convince a few more people to buy a WiiU.

I wouldn't worry so much about the hardware, Nintendo games generally don't move hardware in singular spikes.  Though the hardware usually sees a small bump during major game releases, the reality is that Nintendo sells systems off its first party library, rather than big hitter single titles.  The hardware, therefore, will continue to see gradual increases week-on-week or month-on-month as Nintendo's major releases continue to pile up.

The sales are currently disproving your theory. The WiiU had an abysmal January 2013, but it's gotten plenty of big first party releases since then with Pikmin 3, 3D World, and Wind Waker HD. Yet even with a bigger lineup and cheaper price it was actually down YOY in January. Still selling worse than it did last year.  If Donkey Kong isn't moving units now it's not going to do so next week or next month. The hardware is not going to see gradual increases every week, that doesn't make any sense. Mario Kart and Smash Bros are the only ones that will sell systems, and Mario Kart is 3 months away.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
