A lot of them do work.. this is just Sony trying to save money with their bad financials.. A lot of people still want to feel and touch a device before they are gonna buy.. to see the screen quality of a TV, listen to the sound quality.. for Sony it doesn't matter if they then buy it from Best Buy or Amazon after that..
I'm pretty sure if Sony had the money in the future they would open stores again.. (if they still have an electronics division)

But you don't go to one brand's store for that - you go where you have a wider choice to compare different brands.

.. thats the new shopping.. making a brand an experience so people will buy your brand only.. making customers feels special about buying from a single brand..  Apple does it the best, but there a Bose stores with super expensive sound systems,  even Nespresso stores where you can only buy Nespresso coffee cups.. there is no room for another brand.. thats the shift in shopping that is happening.. people don't just wanna shop, they want the feeling that what they shop makes them feel good.. which lead to brand connection, which leads to repeat buying cause it makes them feel good.. Customers a tricked into building a relationship with a brand..t  a Brand store is much better to achieve this then a store with different brands. Advertising isn't about selling a product anymore but to achieve and maintain a durable relationship with the customer..
( I actually get paid to write down and teach this stuff up at the college I teach)
