Shifting their entire focus on this would be a bad choice. Offer another SKU with kid-friendly prices and games with all that stuff you mentioned, and keep their current SKUs for those who don't want to deal with such things or who don't wanna focus solely on that. Maybe re-design the cheaper NFC-oriented kid-friendly console w/ Gamepad so that a price drop is possible to make it more appealing for parents, because $299.99 isn't "price friendly" all that much. They're not keen on selling stuff at a loss, so they should do their best to lower costs as much as possible. Maybe also redesign the Gamepad "slimmer" for the regular SKU to cut costs for that as well.
They're shifting their focus, according to Iwata, on the Gamepad. While many thought that to be a bad idea, it's actually one of the smarter ideas, because it's the main selling point of the console (or at least it was meant to be). IF they can get that sort of Wii Sports phenomenon running again (not likely, but not impossible), they can secure a larger install base and a healthier console generation (relatively speaking). They're not dropping the Gamepad, because that'll leave Wii U in a very awkward position in the market if the Gamepad was a "separate" product. So yes, offer this kid-friendly NFC Toy-like SKU, but don't give up on those who bought, and will buy a Wii U for their core titles.
