Yep that sounds like Nintendo; suck the dick of a system that doesn't need help and screw over the Wii U yet again.

The key is that Metroid on Wii U would be expensive, and doing it in 2D would be one of those "games nobody asked for," basically.

Other M showed that Metroid is a hard sell on consoles in a certain respect (having absolutely nothing to do with "Authorization", the story, or any of Sakamoto's shenanigans): Metroid games are too short to really demand a console experience any more, unless you make them a more sedately-paced First Person Adventure like the Prime games. So it's an issue of niche, expense, and possible sales. Even if Wii U was selling gangbusters, i'd still say a 3DS game would make more sense in terms of Metroid's core design.

Wait, Metroid games are short? Other M sold poorly because it was the worst in the series in terms of critical reception, and IMO it was just not that good a game.

What Metroid game on consoles besides other M is short tho? Super Metroid was the shortest one on consoles I have played, and it took me like 15 hours.

As far as Metroid 3DS goes, yes please. 2D, super metroid style, no story, isolation, music, new powerups, etc. I would also hope a Wii U Metroid would get announced.
