Considering the degree to which the console gaming market is expected to diminish, especially in this forum, I doubt current gen could've financially afforded any better specs. Unfortunately, High Tier PC gaming is not mainstream enough to utilize their extra power more effectively then higher resolutions and AA.
Within that regard, developers will have to find other ways to improve gameplay.
In regards to consoles being powerful enough, I agree on the grounds that the market has set the upper bound.
Any Console above 600+ is destined for failure, and the PC model doesn't have that limitation.
Ultimately, the PC model is advantageous inherently because consumers spend as much as they want on hardware, but because the disparity between low end models and high end models is what makes consoles viable in the first place.
Either streaming or Moore's Law will make PC replace Consoles, but I don't agree that Steambox will.
