Not just in the Gaming Industry: Common Sense typically establishes a direct correlation between price and power(in tech/vehicles/etc.)/quality(everything else) when its not always the case.
While its(the gap) basically insignificant to the mainstream consumer, price is very visible. In contrast, any informed gamer will be aware of the difference, which basically eats at anyone stuck in the middle.
