Reading the NPD thread on GAF, it appears that Aquamarine (among others) is actually reading these forums - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=100938131&postcount=3454

Hello Aquamarine.

Dont take the minority of ignorant users here as a majority. Many people who are actually "in the know", so to say, on sales figures and your general NPD stuff know all about how accurate your leaks are.

That said.

To the other ignorant GAF members who are in that thread, who apparently read these forums and visit this site (funny, when I read about your disdain for VGChartz).

noobie, youre mistaken. We dont hold onto VGChartz numbers as factual numbers. We take them for what they are. Estimations. These estimations are good enough for the likes of Sony and Square Enix, to name a couple of big gaming companies.

We ask about and debate adjustments to the estimations here based on NPD leaks from NeoGAF members. Remove yourself from your high horse.
__________

IncandescentPrecept, Nintendo had shipped 42.74 Million 3DS systems as of 31st December. VGChartz estimations have the 3DS at 41.79 Million sold as of 28th December. The 3DS numbers for 2013 here arent exactly a problem. Remove yourself from your high horse.

__________

SwiftDeath, nobody is being mislead. VGChartz gives estimates. That is all. People know what theyre paying for. People know how VGC numbers come about. If people were being swindled, Brett would have been fucked for it a long time ago. Get a grip.

__________

Aquamarine again. See this is the problem that you GAF lot have. You call people who use the numbers ignorant, yet youre being ignorant yourself. You refuse to look beyond your old hatred of Brett and VGC in general and see what this site is actually doing. Read the (admittedly now outdated) Methodology. Look at the first sentence.

"All sales estimates on VGChartz are arrived at via a number of proprietrary and ever-developing methods"

Additionally, why dont you give this a read? Ill pull out some key parts.

"Every piece of data we report is an estimate. It will always be higher or lower than the actual figure and there will always be some for which the figure is favourable and some for which the figure is not."

________________

"What VGChartz offers is timely data that isn't meant to be 100% accurate but be in the right range. We don't compete with the likes of NPD, GFK or ChartTrack; we offer a service that is totally different. One that is not based on comprehensive and direct retail tracking, but rather uses modern and alternative methods to quickly arrive at estimates, combined with a database of historical sales - constantly adjusted and tweaked to be as accurate as possible."

________________

"However, even with the greatest of diligence, our data is still just an estimate so whenever quoting a figure from VGChartz it should be listed as an estimate and readers should be made aware that there is a margin of error associated. With this in mind, VGChartz data is fine for most applications - from a year-on-year genre analysis to first-day estimates for a major title to a ballpark estimate of total sales to date for a given game."

________________

"Maybe if websites, readers, retailers and major publishers got on board with VGChartz, dismissed the various political reasons they have not to support the site (which could form an editorial of its own) and understood the nature of the data and the insight it gives into the videogame industry to the extent that developers, investors and VGChartz readers seem to appreciate, then maybe the data could improve even further and that way everybody could benefit."

Now, you see GAF guys. You see that?

If you lot actually understood the data here and werent acting like small minded, ignorant children every time you see "VGChartz", then maybe you would understand what Brett and the team is trying to do. Stop trying to put down the site at any opportunity you get, when youre quite clearly (Amir0x) clueless about the entire project.

Boy. GAF has its uses but the ignorance regarding VGC numbers always manages to grind my gears.
