People should not compare blindly this numbers with 2007 for a few reasons...

a) January 2007 consisted in 5 weeks, January 2014 consisted in 4 weeks
b) PS2 was its 7th January in USA, X360 is its 9th January and for Wii and PS3 its 8th
c) 7th gen sales were a lot more frontloaded than 6th gen
d) PS4 sold less than Wii in 2007 because it already sold A LOT MORE in November and December, there is just not enough stock to sell in January. Sony took January shipments to sell in December.
e) Xbox One sold less than X360 in 2006 for the same reason a "d"

And respecting the doom for this new gen, i think is not true. People just want to buy one console that is not available yet. I will made an example to explain myself:
-You have 1000 consumers that want to buy a next gen console
-From that 1000, 100 want a WiiU, 200 a Xbox One and 700 want a PS4.
-Nintendo can sell you 200, Microsoft can sell you 300 and Sony can sell you only 300.
-Nintendo and Microsoft despite of stock only sell 100 and 200 because there is not more demand, but PS4 sells only half what he could have sold.
-So basically you're only selling 600 total, but you could have sold that 1000 numbers if there was enough ps4.

That's what I think just happened in January. We just need to wait next months if next gen is really doomed or not.

Edit: What are really doomed are handhelds....there's not other way to see it.

Thank God for some sense in this thread. I'm sick of everyone dooming the industry just because Nintendo and Microsoft fucked up.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
