Lol, the whole "#doomed" thing was just me joking, of course the industry isn't doomed as of now, it's the first month of the year and not many notable releases have occured. Now if huge games release and numbers don't shoot up a good amount, then we can worry.... As for Wii, well people were comparing PS4's numbers and demand to Wii's and well, these numbers show that demand for Wii was much higher even past the holidays than PS4 was in the same timeframe. Anecdotal evidence or call it as you may, but there have been PS4's in the wild (though very rare to find in stores), and that's already telling that demand isn't as high as Wii was, where you couldn't find one lying around for well over a year. The cause for Wii's demise was all on Nintendo. If they were able to continue supporting it, I'm sure it wouldn't died so quickly, that was their fault. Though, I don't think any console will EVER match the insane conditions Wii was in for its first 2 years in terms of demand. |
True demand was insane at the beginning, but like I've said a console doesn't need to reproduce the Wiis initial demand to beat it in the long run, it just needs to have a longer life, also I think it's kinda important to note that the Wii launched at $250 vs the PS4s $400 so that alone does make a difference.
