Was he called Eggman in the US or what? I stopped console gaming with the Megadrive and when I returned with the Wii and I see his name change, it always puzzled me.

He was always Eggman in Japan. The Western name was Dr Robotnik. Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast bridged the difference in the West where he starts as Dr Robotnik, but then Sonic calls him Eggman/"A giant talking egg" etc. And it stuck as Eggman globally from then on.

But it sounds so childish. Thanks for that localisation background.
