2007 also included Japan sales for MS and Sony while these 2014 do not.

As for Sony, PS3 wasnt available in Europe yet which is much bigger than Japan.

Good call on EU for PS3, I completely forgot about that.

 

Still, I don't think the home console market is that much worse. I believe most of this decline is due to the rise of smartphone gaming, which had a big effect on dedicated gaming handheld sales.

 

If we factor tablets, pc and smartphones into the equation is the gaming industry really that much worse than in 2007? I know people like to ignore tablets and smartphones so we don't usually get those factored into discussions here.
