Can anyone tell me what I am missing about the 3DS

Metrium obviously does not get it at all. It is nothing to do with the graphics. Quite a few of my favorite games as of late have been 16-bit but they price theirself accordingly 3DS games are not priced accordingly. I can buy stuff from 2005 on my PSVita that cost 5$ with the same or higher quality that anything on 3DS. I need to buy Patapon on my Vita =)

So you want full console experience, or cheap $5 indie games, but nothing inbetween? That defeats the purpose of a handheld doesn't it? The best selling handheld games are games designed from the ground up to be played on a handheld. You might not like Pokemon for instance, but it's a damn good game for handhelds, and that's why they sell nearly as well as Call of Duty (better in the past).

I still say games like Fire Emblem and Advance Wars are amazing and worth buying a 3DS for. These games have dozens of hours of playability before you beat the main game and dozens more when you finish it. $0.50 an hour IMO is not over-priced.

However like you said, you have a specific taste in games, and 3DS doesn't suit you. Enjoy your Vita, I know I love my PSP.

P.S. I'm going to get a Vita one day, but not anytime soon for the exact opposite reason as you. No Gran Turismo (console experience), and very few dedicated handheld franchises.
