Don't forget that MS was willing to force DRM ia the Azure cloud on gamers for EA so EA laid back and dropped the online pass thinking they could force it upon people and succeed like they did Xbox Live Gold. Didn't work this time. The payment part is only natural for MS.

Thats not speculation. DRM was pulled back because of the internet and media backlash. The primary paywall system of the azure cloud was stripped down before the Xbox One was shipped. MS knew they had tried gamers patience. EA stepped back and acted like  they weren't even apart of it after Sony called out Microsoft at E3. Luckily for us they kept the online pass away. Its not that EA bet on the wrong horse, they had planned a lot of crap and it didn't quite go as expected. Better for us as gamers away. I can pick up my Xbone now in peace.
