I did something new for this month: I divided the 80 or so games into a dozen genres. All I can say is, VGChartz demands do NOT match real life sales success.

Anyhow, based on what I have so far, here are the lead platforms for each genre, with some of the more notable reasons why.

  • Action: Wii U (Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors)
  • Action-Adventure: PS4 (Infamous: Second Son
  • Adventure: 3DS (Layton, Ace Attorney, and the combo thereof)
  • Fighting: Wii U (Smash Bros is the only big name in the genre at the moment)
  • JRPG: PS3 (Persona 5, Tales of Xillia 2, Dark Souls 2, Final Fantasy X/X-s HD)
  • Platformer: Wii U (Donkey Kong Country: TF)
  • Racing: Wii U (Sony and Microsoft just released their big racers, so Mario Kart has little competition)
  • Shooter: PS4 (Uncharted was either this or an Action-Adventure, but I put it here. Also, The Order: 1886.)
  • WRPG: PC (The Witcher 3, South Park)

Five minor categories I made included Horror, Simulation, Sports, Stealth, and Strategy. These were generally too hard to put in a larger category.

Anyway, this info is not meant to definitively put everything in a single large genre. It's just something I did to mix things up this month. Maybe I'll make a new section or something.
