So here's my 2 reasons why I think the new Donkey Kong will give the Wii U a sizable bump.

1. DKC Returns came out in November/December of 2010 depending on the territory and was Nintendo's only big Wii release they had for months. By the end of the year it had already sold 3.5 million copies, which is great in itself, but what's even better to me is that it helped the Wii stay as the best selling console during the December of 2010, even after the Wii had already sold 75 million units. At that point in the Wii's life, it's very hard to make a case that Wii Sports and New Super Mario Bros were the one's moving consoles, when they had been out for a considerable amount of time. Another interesting thing to note is that the Kinect had released during the same holiday season, and in theory the Kinect as a device should have pushed the 360 past the Wii, but Donkey Kong's presence kept the Wii ahead for one last holiday season.

2. It's currently sitting at 78k U.S. preorders. SM3DW had 100k preorders when it released and Nintendo games almost always receive 35 - 45 percent of their pre-orders in the last 2 weeks. With 2 weeks to go Tropical Freeze should be sitting at atleast 88k in U.S. Preorders, and if the pattern holds true, DK will end up with 130 - 140k in pre-orders. That's a really good sign considering SM3DW sold 700k in the U.S. I really think that there is more interest and excitement for this game then SM3DW. Donkey Kong has not been overexposed by any means, unlike Mario,Pokemon, and Zelda, and people who love the DKC games have been waiting 3.5 years for a new one.

That's my analysis using some numbers. Either way, DK can't save the Wii U on it's own, but I do think think that it will pull even with the Xbox One, and maybe the PS4 (depending on how far the PS4 drops in a month) for atleast 4 weeks. If they somehow could get Mario Kart out by the end of March, then the Wii U would be in really good shape moving forward.
