Most triple A mainstream games were overrated, but the one game that sticked out for me was Journey - it's a nice little.. experience, worth maybe 2 bucks but the way it was hyped and praised still makes me puke. I guess big part of that was that it was a PS3 exclusive - was it released on other platforms it woulda been treated like just another indie game.
Honorable mention is another small subgame: To The Moon
Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.
