Gaming has been political for a long time already. It's a shame, but that's just they way things are now.
Though in the case of what you're referring to, it's always been that way. People will discount things they don't like and overpraise things they do like. It's a shame when people have this mentality though. A lot of people consider everything in absolutes and it drives me crazy. No one can play the middle and admit the good things about what they consider "the opposition", because they have to prove a point and somehow admitting interest in other things means you lose the console war.
