I think Nintendo is done with consoles to be honest. They will find a new business model to work off of soon and will ride Wii U out for another two holiday seasons before basically abandoning it.
Iwata's comments show the writing is on the wall. Unless they can find a new Wiimote like miracle, consumers are not interested in a niche console that is missing 1/2 of the third party games they want and isn't anything remarkable hardware wise.
Nintendo is just making machines for a shrinking group of hardcore Nintendo enthusiasts at this point.
By 2016/17, the PS4 will be $199.99 or less ... why pay more for a new Nintendo console that's probably not much more powerful and is starting from scratch with 10-20 games, whereas the PS4 will have a mature library of hundreds of games many of them discounted to $20.
