Considering Nintendo is now the LAST traditional console, I'd say they're not just important, but absolutely necessary. They're the last of their kind. Free online play, free backwards compatibility, releasing games that are FULL releases, with no content withheld just to turn a buck via DLC.
I'm in full support of them. 100%
