The way I see it is you have 3 distinct groups of people who bought a last gen console.
The core gamer - Zelda, Uncharted, Gears, Mass Effect, Smash Bros. God of War, Forza.
The casual gamer - COD, GTA, Fifa, Madden, Need for Speed.
The casual "consumer" - Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Kinect.
I believe the problem for both Nintendo & Microsoft is the last category of people who have either moved on to tablets and mobile gaming or are happy with their current Wii, 360 Kinect and see no reason for an upgrade.
Hell, my 73 year old father has a Wii, my 33 year sister who has no interest in gaming also. They have both been collecting dust for the past few years. The casual consumers have moved on and aren't coming back.
I think Sony, Nintendo & Microsoft will all do well with their respective core gamer audience.
Sony and to a lesser extent Nintendo will do well with the casual gamer, which leaves Microsoft in a dangerous position since they invested so heavily in another "gimmick" to attract the casual consumer who I honestly believe has no interest in dumping $500 to change the TV channel with their voice.
