I'm particularly looking forward to FFXHD

Old style FF gameplay is really missed by me. Last one we had really was FFX-2. (a) I was confortable going through an FF game knowing I wouldn't have to grind as it was mostly balanced, (b) I found special ways over time to make my characters even better when at first I was just making sure they survive, the random encounters gave the terrifying fear that maybe just maybe a Malboro will appear and you'd have to peg it and (d) at the start of the battle your characters were clean slate and you had to pimp them out, especially if it was a boss fight. In FFXII and FFXIII most of these things were missing.

I don't think I've ever played an RPG without being a bit over levelled so I've never played with that amount of fear.

FF XIII did have the long tactical battles in terms of bosses, the problem was that with that and XII you basically had to have your plans pre-set. I set up some gambits in XII and just played it without really changing in other than swapping in new abilities. Same with XIII, you had some plans set up then you do have a few ways to execute them which was good. I definitely enjoyed both games though

I'm now playing tons of XCOM. I don't really know why I like it so much, since it has lots of issues, but is definitely great fun
