I find Microsoft to be exceptionally dumb. They had the opportunity to have a VERY strong first-party developer. It would be their Naughty Dog, their Retro. Instead, Rare makes a Banjo game nobody likes, a Perfect Dark game nobody likes and a bunch of Kinect games nobody cares. It almost seems like that they bought Rare just so Nintendo wouldn't have their games anymore.

Or maybe Rare just lost its touch anyway and MS had nothing to do with it?

Believe it or not, it really wasn't Microsoft's fault.  When they bought Rare they made very few internal changes, but the problem was that Nintendo had always been a guiding influence and one of the big reasons Rare games were so good (you see this with a lot of 2nd party Nintendo developers).  Without Nintendo, Rare just wasn't as good at making games.

They say, "Evil prevails when good men fail to act." What they ought to say is, "Evil prevails."
