Forums - Nintendo - Best Dream for an N64 platformer fan (Which I'm not :P)

Nintendo buys Rare from Microsoft. Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, and Donkey Kong 64 are all released on Wii U virtual console, Banjo-Kazooie 3D announced, gives free download code for Banjo-Tooie 3D, Stop 'n Swop fully functional. No more crappy Kinect games.

Sigh. A man can dream...

I wonder if Rare are still capable of making good adventure games. I kinda doubt it.

It would make more sense for Nintendo to buy the ips, Rare is not what it used to be.

It wouldn't even matter if they bought Rare or not, majority of the good people at Rare left a while ago... Maybe buy their IPs but I don't even think it would sell that well

Nintendo and their draconian influence on devs... how could they let them go with all those licences? What bastards!!!!

Include Jet Force Gemini and then it's a dream come true...

Have a nice day...

Nintendo had the option to acquire Rare, but the owners wanted more money than they were willing to pay.  Looking at the quality of games post-Nintendo, passing was probably a wise decision.

Just as a FYI, Nintendo retained the rights to the games involving their IP (including Donkey Kong 64).  Why they haven't put it up on Virtual Console is anyone's guess.

They say, "Evil prevails when good men fail to act." What they ought to say is, "Evil prevails."

Rare is a shell of it's former self. Like literally, there's no original employee there to my knowledge... Maybe the custodian.

I find Microsoft to be exceptionally dumb. They had the opportunity to have a VERY strong first-party developer. It would be their Naughty Dog, their Retro. Instead, Rare makes a Banjo game nobody likes, a Perfect Dark game nobody likes and a bunch of Kinect games nobody cares. It almost seems like that they bought Rare just so Nintendo wouldn't have their games anymore.

Or maybe Rare just lost its touch anyway and MS had nothing to do with it?
