The multiplayer might be of the "hunting" variety but in the single player, the monsters are just big and cool, that's all.

That would be fine with me. Actually, in single player you probably will have AI controlled party members.

Looks to me like Xenoblade, but maybe with hints of MH in it (because of the possibillity to remove body parts). I doubt it will become a hunting game though, the core battle system looks to similar to that of Xenoblades.
