It was a press release, not a statement during an investor's briefing. That makes it free game for spin.

And if you know that you shipped, say, 3.5m consoles by December 31st, there's no way for anyone to verify that over 3m sellthrough was a lie.

I am not that fussed, it's only 100k, and when things start to settle, there will be no hiding place for BS statements. If the consoles take a nose dive sales wise, they can talk as much as they want about shipped or anything else, when NPD and other data comes along it will be quite obvious.  

I also dont get why people take what forum dwellers say about details that cannot be checked to heart so much. Take it with a pince of salt and just wait... the truth will always be revealed :)

We don't know how much they have shipped or how often, all we know at the moment is that there seems to be alot of stock around. Next week we will know if MS have been really good at stocking stores quickly as it sells out, or its just not selling as well as the speed of the stock going into the stores. No biggie... but certainly nothing to get all upset about 100k.
