1) Nintendo needs to get in contact with the big third parties and carefully listen to what they want, then make sure that they will do none of those things.

2) Start increasing their workforce right now. Conventional wisdom is that you need to cut jobs when the company isn't doing well, but that would absolutely the wrong thing for Nintendo to do.

3) Put a proper account system and Virtual Console in place now, so that everything is ready for the next console's launch and things don't start all over again once again.

4) Stop toying around with IPs. Make straightforward sequels or new IPs. The constant shoehorning of new concepts into existing IPs creates a lack of consistency. While the result is still a quality game in most cases, it doesn't necessarily meet the consumers' expectations. Note that "straightforward sequels" doesn't mean "no new ideas", it means "no fundamental changes".

5) Get your priorities straight. There are IPs that are more important than others, so they must get the proper attention in development, marketing and timing of release.

100% this. Shame Nintendo needs a whole gen to address these issues.

Also point #4 is on the $. I've been voicing similar perspective for a while. Nintendo wants their cake and eat it too. What this does is actually damage a brand more IMO.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
