Not sure if this suggestion is blasphemy, but I feel that Nintendo would also need to get rid of the animals as well and more towards more traditional sci fi characters. Whether they turn them into humans or aliens that resemble the creatures they are named from, I do think that the animal aspect would limit the seriousness of the game.
