As previously mentioned, I had neither system during their active lifespans, but I still played both substantially.
If I were asked this question 5 years ago, I probably would've said the N64, but I realized that my neglect towards the Gamecube was due to it's respective competition (PS2, original Xbox, GBA) being flat out better at each of it's talking points in some form or another at the time, not necessarily in contrast to previous Nintendo systems.
And it then dawned on me how heavily the N64 relied on Rare's support, they basically 1-up'd each and every one of Nintendo's internal offerings with the exception of Zelda games, their slow but sure departure during the Gamecube era seemed to have Nintendo re-evaluate their 1st party studios/IPs, and improved tenfold by daring to be different.
I'm likely to take a lot of heat for saying this, but what can I say, the Gamecube feels more like a Nintendo system to me than the N64 did.
