As a tales fan, doesn't it seem a bit boring? I don't know it sort of feels like they are throwing bunch of tales plot together. 

Not really, because you shouldn't take Tales plots or characters at face value. They're always better than what the basic preliminary info says about them. Tales games always do some good things with the plots and even with similar premises they change things up so I'm not really worried.

Also Jude has a better character design than Slay/Threi.

I don't know, I just get eerie vibe like I did Tales of Graces closer to release, and Tales of Graces to me felt really dull.
