DS: 2004 release
3DS: 2011 release
HDS: 2017-2018 release at EARLIEST
They have the highest selling gaming platform. There is no hurry to release a new model/the next handheld until the 3ds starts to burn out. I would think with the way technology moves that it'd be released sooner, but with 3ds' flying off shelves there is no reason to.
