For an extra $100 to $200 for the hardware plus $50 or $60 a year for online fees, of course the competition is going to have more advanced hardware and better online services. Some people just might look at those prices and say "Nah, I'd rather get the console that will cost me $300 over four years with a free game than the one that costs $600 or even more during the same timespan, even if it means less impressive tech and features." The Wii, DS, and 3DS are just the best recent examples.
I'm not saying that only a Nintendo system makes sense to buy. I am saying though, that if you have more modest expectations for technical specifications and online features, the Wii U makes more sense to buy. ESPECIALLY if you are a big fan of Nintendo games. Plus, it's not like the Wii U completely lacks 3rd party online games. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimateand the two Call of Duty games have decent online communities, and online communities for the system are only likely to get larger as killer apps like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros 4 get more people to play more Wii U games online.

So for extra 100$ you get a vastly more powerfull machine with a better RAM, CPU, and GPU, a DVD player, a Blu Ray player, 500GB HDD, and again, better online infrastructure (there's more to it than just online play)So the bigger value is absolutely there. And as we can see, the market is responding much much better to those advanced consoles with better online services

And for a bit extra you could get a PC, with better specs in all areas, including dirt cheap games and free, excellent online infrastructure. I never quite got this argument for PS4/Xbone, as it's the same argument to get a PC...
As for the WiiU's online, I haven't seen any issues with it. I've played BlOps2 and Wii Sports Club online without issue. Miiverse is an excellent (and actually fun) integrated social network, and messaging/ video chatting works really well. All for $0 extra. The others would need to be doing a lot more than some ambiguous "better online infrastructure (there's more to it than just online play)" to justify ANY sort of price tag.

Ah, the classic ''im gonna draw an open platform PC into the discussion because my favorite console is losing'' argument. Why not go one step further and add a few thousand bucks to build a supercomputer that oblitarates a normal PC? PC is an open platform for multiple purposes, its supposed to be upgradable while consoles are closed, they are not comparable.
And btw, there are cheap games on consoles too. With PS+, you even get 4 games for free per month. And please define ''a bit extra'' because you cant build a PC thats more powerfull than a PS4 without atleast 700-800 dollars, which is 2 times its price

Not at all, I just find it interesting how power is so important to some, enough to warrant extra cash over competitors consoles, but just not enough for a PC which will blow consoles out of the water. Not to mention the arguments for a PS4/Xbone over a PC are the same arguments to get a WiiU...
Maybe because consoles (PS4 at least) is more powerfull then the majority of retail gaming PCs at the moment? And they are not really the same arguments. You see, every game PC gets, PS4 will also get because of its powerfull yet easy to design hardware. Wii U on the other hand wont. Where is BF4 on Wii U? Where is Witcher 3? Where is Thief? Wii U is gonna be missing a lot of next gen games due to its incredibly weak hardware. PS4 and even Xbone will not. So hardware power directly effects the quality and quantity of one system's library.

That article is bullcrap. That PC has a worse RAM than a PS4 and it doesnt factor in the optimization that is present of PS4's system when comparing GPU's. Also, its still considerably more expensive than a PS4
The Wii U is $250 and the PS4 $400 in the US right? Add in your yearly online subscription and theres a $200+ difference there, add another $200+ and you're well within the realm of a gaming PC that can compete.
How much would Wii U cost If i added a DVD and a Blu Ray player in it, as well as a 500GB hard drive? Certnanly under 400$, no?
It's disingenuous to say PS+ has free games. You rent them cheaply. This is differet to being free, or even purchasing them outright cheaply.
Well, if you used constant yearl subscriptions to PS+ early in your argument, use them now too. If you constatly pay for PS+, you constantly get to keep all the games for it across 3 different systems
