The reason its coming in January and not the holidays is because that's when a lot of people, especially women make New Years resolution's to lose weight. Granted it is basically available now anyway for anyone who already owns the Balance Board.

Is it a full demo? Because my obvious question would be since when has a demo sold consoles? (besides ps1 era)

It's the full game, you get to download it for free and try it for a month if you already have a Balance Board. If you buy the Wii Fit U Meter ($19.99) from a store (already available) then you can keep the game forever.
