They can only support old consoles for so long before software sales dry up. Reality is they are going from a combined userbase of 160 million to less than 10 million combined going forward. Not growing their brand on every platform is financial practice, they need every sales they can get, end of story.

 

That would be true if a Wii U version would just appear for free, but that doesn't happen, a Wii U version costs money. And for most third parties a port that sells south of 100k is simply not worth it.

Also your "they treated them like crap"-argument doesn't even work here, Activision has supported Nintendo for a long time, all their big games released on the Wii and now Wii U. Fact is very few people actually buy third party games on Nintendo consoles, aside from a couple exceptions, so third parties really don't need nintendo, if at all it's the other way around.
