I feel it's the other way around actually. Why pay $300+ to play NSMB when you can pay sub $200.

That works for a series that transcends platforms, but a game like say, SSB, will play better on consoles and people who play it on the 3DS will want to play it on a console. 

You haven't played the game to know that and nothing we've seen so far shows this. That last part will not likely be the case for the majority, and regardless it works both ways.
