Pokémon has a certain design to them based on manga and anime that makes them look cute despite sometimes beeing creepy.
This art would not appeal to the same target as regular pokémon does. This would aim the game at a difference audience, an audience that problably doesnt want to play pokémon in the first place.
With that said, i wouldnt mind seeing a sub-series take this spin and see how its received. It would have to be a more cinematic game than the series currently is... and it would be very difficult to pull off cause the combat couldnt be turn based anymore. It would have to be real time.
